Is it legal to sell IP addresses?

Yes it is legal to sell IP addresses. Each regional internet registry created policy to allow organizations who are the rightful owners of an IP address block to legally transfer the rights of the IPs to a third party organization.

How do I request IPv4?

You can request IPv4 addresses by signing up with your regional internet registry (RIR).   Each RIR has their own requirements to get an account and require different justifications to request IPv4 addresses.

There are 5 RIRs covering every continent in the world.

  • American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN)
  • Réseaux Internet Protocol Européens (RIPE)
  • Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC)
  • Latin America and Caribbean Network Information Center (LACNIC)
  • African Network Information Centre (AFRNIC)

Can you sell IPv4 Addresses?

Yes you are allowed to sell IPv4. Each regional internet registry created policy to allow organizations who are the rightful owners of an IP address block to legally transfer the rights of the IPs to a third party organization.

Where can I buy IPv4 addresses?

You can buy IPv4 addresses from organizations who currently own them and have no need for them any longer. Typically these organizations use a partner to sell their IPv4 addresses. You can also buy IPv4 addresses on an IPv4 marketplace such as ipv4connect.com.

How much is an IPv4 address worth?

IPv4 addresses have increased in value significantly since the global exhaustion in 2015.  Originally starting out at around $8 per IP address, the prices have increased around 20-25% every year.

How do I purchase an IP?

  1. Create Online Account with your regional internet registry.
  2. Get pre-approval if required
  3. Review an IP address block
  4. Sign IPv4 purchase agreement
  5. Make payment
  6. Submit transfer ticket
  7. The RIR approves transfer

What is an IPAM

Most organizations used to and still do rely on spreadsheets and memory to keep track of IPv4, IPv6 and private IP addresses.  An IPAM, known as a IP addresses management software, is used to assist in tracking IP subnets, usage, allocations and more in an single online interface.  It helps avoid problems in the long terms as an organization grows.

How much does it cost to buy an IP address?

The prices for IP addresses vary depending on the regional internet registry, size of block and how clean it is. While IP addresses were priced as low as $8 per IP in 2015, they are valued at $30 – $50 per IP as of 2023

How much does a 24 IP cost?

As of 2022, and /24 IP block cost around *$10,000 – $12,000 *(USD). The prices vary based on the region and how clean the block is.

How many IPs is a 16?

A /16 IP block, also known as a Class B network, has 65,536 IPv4 addresses.

What is an IPv4 broker?

An IPv4 Broker is a advisor who can help you navigate the complex process of purchasing and transferring IPv4 addresses blocks.

In order to choose a good IPv4 broker, it is important for them to be able to provide the following:

What is an Internet Routing Registry (IRR) Object

An Internet Routing Registry (IRR) Object is used by many of today’s leading internet services providers and network carriers to validate routes.

This eliminates hijacking and ensures IPv4 address and ASN announced are validated and only used by the rightful owners. ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC and AFRNIC all have IRR object options.

What are BGP Routing Records?

Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is a protocol that allows for the fastest and most efficient routing of internet traffic.   The owner of an IPv4 Address subnet asks their upstream internet service provider to route specific IPv4 subnets now smaller than a /24 to route traffic using the best method of delivery.  BGP is responsible for assessing all of the available internet routes that data can travel and then choose the best option, which usually means hopping between Autonomous Systems (AS) numbers that represent the upstream internet providers network..

How do I Lease IPv4 Addresses

There are several options to lease IPv4 addresses.  You can get them from your upstream internet providers.  However, in this case, you are stuck with them and must use their connectivity.  If you prefer to be carrier agnostic, you can lease from a third party who owns IPv4 independent of any ISP such as Brander Group.
